  1. Gretzky’s #99 was retired league-wide at the 2000 NHL All-Star game.

    Many NHL players wear contacts but many also get laser eye surgery if they can.

    Is Pavelski that good?

  2. Gretzky’s #99 was retired November 22nd, 1999 at a ceremony hosted by Gary Bettman. He actually has a banner hanging at most, if not all NHL arenas I do believe.

    also, team retired numbers are allowed to be worn again for the most part, though there are exceptions. Its just historical custom and respect amongst players to not wear a number that the team has retired.
